'Something unexpected' when I change event details

Reported by Mike Weaver | August 11th, 2019 @ 11:24 PM | in 2.1.1.8

If I have already created an event in the calendar tab (which is not a problem), but then wish to change some aspect of it - say change the time it starts - I always now get a dialog 'Oh my, something unexpected has happened' after opening the event and making the change in the event tab. Selecting 'continue' will keep Doogie active, but the details will NOT be changed. If I now close and reopen Doogie, the changes I made are now reflected in the event. I've tried uninstalling Doogie and reinstalling, but to no avail. The problem appears to be very repeatable. My system is Win 10 Professional, 64bit v1903

    Status: Awaiting details.

Please replicate the error once more and send the generated Dev Report as a text file to my email address chris@bitespire.com

That report will tell me exactly where the problem is and I may be able to get it fixed for the upcoming new version.

    Many thanks,
    Chris

Hi Chris - You are probably not going to believe this, but after living with this for some time now, it has suddenly decided to correct itself!!! I've tried with two events this morning - changing the start time by, say, 30 minutes and in both cases, the change was reflected immediately and the error dialog didn't show. And, such a change was exactly what had been causing the error previously. Is it related to the uninstall and re-install I did yesterday? I was pretty certain that it wasn't - the error had definitely occurred after that re-install, which is why I'd finally decided to report it. But, as I say, I now cannot replicate the error and all appears to be OK. I guess we will have to put it down to one of those mysterious glitches we all see from time to time! Thanks so much for your prompt and supportive reply - Mike

Thanks for the extra information and the surprising result. :) I certainly didn't code doogiePIM to repair itself but I'm glad it isn't bothering you further. I'll keep this ticket on hold until it comes up again and I'll still look into things. You never know, it could be date related.

    Thanks again,
    Chris

    Hi Chris

OK, well the problem occurred again this morning. I have a recurring event on a Monday (today is Sunday) and I wanted to change one word in the event title to better reflect what I'm doing. I opened the calendar tab; clicked on tomorrow's date, and chose the (single on that day) event. A dialog launched - 'did I want to change single occurrence or the entire series (it's a school term long program)?' I selected 'entire series' and the event dialog opens. I changed the specific word in the title - NO change is shown in the open 'event dialog' but Failure dialog ('Oh dear etc') opened. I saved the error report (attached to this email) and selected 'continue'. I then closed DoogiePim and restarted it - and the change in title is now reflected. Maybe I spoke too soon previously!!

Thanks for your help - Mike

Ah. I can see from the dev report the problem was after you hit Save and doogiePIM attempted to update the Full Text Index database. It appeared to fail in adding the change.
The Full Text Index database is a separate database held in the same location as your doo file but with a file extension of "doosi".

    To fix;
Head to the menu item, "Tools / Admin / Build Complete Full Text Index".
This may take some time depending on the number of records but will recreate the entire index file for you.

Restart doogiePIM and, hopefully, all will be well with the world of doogiePIM.

If you are still having problems with it, try exiting doogiePIM and manually deleting the doosi file and run the full index again. Be careful you delete the doosi file and not the doo file.

Many thanks for providing the report and hope to read a successful result.
    Chris

Thanks so much, Chris. Yes, I did have to remove the doosi file as your first tip didn't work. However, after removal and rebuilding it, the app is working exactly as I'd expect - and I can change event details to my heart's content! I'd count that as a successful result..... :-)

    Regards

    Mike
